The top image is the image I tried to replicate. It's something that caught my attention and seemed easy to do, although it doesn't look exactly the same. To create this image I used the shapes tool in illustrator to help with the building and used the pen tools for the ground. I then added some PNGs of leaves, a tree and a board to replicate what is seen in the actual image.
